For Adults
Have you thought of straightening your teeth but felt you were too old? Are you not happy with your smile but don't know if braces is the right for you? Are you finding it hard to keep your teeth and gums clean? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then see Dr. Dumore, who can diagnose, plan and treat teeth not aligned properly to determine if braces is the right option for you.
Things to consider for adult braces (during the consultation appointment):
- Your gums and bone support must be healthy.
- Treatment time takes longer for an adult as opposed to a growing child. The bone support for an adult is firmer than that of a growing child, who is more resistant to tooth movement. Therefore tooth movement will move more slowly to let your mouth heal between tightening appointments.
- Possible jaw surgery/and or tooth extractions involved
- Determine which is right for you: Braces vs Invisalign
- Option of having clear and/or metal braces or Invisalign depending on what is recommended by Dr. Dumore.
- No age limit! It's not only for teenagers!
Advantages of having straight teeth:
- Straight teeth are easier to keep clean, which can help prevent tooth decay or early tooth loss.
- Prevent further abnormal wear on your teeth that can lead to stress on supporting bones and gums, which may lead to gum disease. Also related to jaw joint problems, or speaking, biting, or chewing problems.
- Feeling better about your appearance. Having a healthier smile reflects on higher confidence levels.
